Carrot Forest

Wanted to do this for the "Orange" theme and never got to it. Drew it while watching Battlestar Galactica, got to thinking about how much I bet they wish they could have found the Carrot Forest Planet.

Savage Color

This is the colored version of an earlier post. I'm still getting used to digital coloring, and I know everyone on here is a master of it so please, comment and recommend. I'm open to any techniques or tricks you might have.

Mental Burrower

A machine mass produced to infiltrate and suck the knowledge of every person in the city. Their mission is to do this while keeping their host cognizant of the pain and torture they are going through, gathering their fear. A terrifying machine inside a human to help Evil take over the world!

This Spark Holds the Matrix, It's Too Powerful! - Rhinox

The ultimate machine inside, the Matrix of Leadership! It just popped in there when I read the theme. I know there are Transformer fans on this blog so please let me know what you think. I think the Prime face got a bit messed up, so I faded it back in photoshop. It's supposed to be when Primal opens the Matrix to save the original Prime's spark in Beast Wars. No color this week.

The Rampaging Tangerine

This was an idea i had when I was big into the 90's X-men cartoon. I thought I was so funny. His villain is Sourtooth, a lemon! (get it?) Anyway, sorry I'm late. Let me know what you think

The Orange Knight

Orange you glad someone is protecting the Sacred Orange Tree with the Sacred Orange of Orangeness. Sorry I'm a couple of days late. I'll be good from now on. At least I'll try.

KFZ...It's Finger Lickin' Good

This is my redesign for Col. Sanders.

I did the coloring in about 20 min, so it's simple to say the least. Let me know what you think.

Beyond the Sea

Beyond the Sea, Ink & Watercolor, 2011
Really small entry this time, wish I spent more time on it. I'm sure Sunday arrived way too fast on everybody. Hope it's self-explanatory.

Fading Atlantis

This is just the idea I had when I read the theme for the week. It's a turtle with the city of Atlantis on it's back. It's constantly moving and making it's way through the seas. Which is why Atlantis will never be found. See you next week!

and p.s. my bad for missing last weeks theme!

Corner Pocket Sam

This is my submission for Beyond the Sea. I didn't want to do an obvious Bobby Darrin image, so I tried to stay in a noir type feel. The background is just blah. Tried a salt wash but didnt wait long enough for it to dry. Let me know what you guys think

Monster drawing

I gotta lotta catching up to do. Lots of computer issues, but that matters not because I made it. (Cough let me catch my breath) Here's my illustration for the week before last theme, "little monster". Marcelo threw me the idea and I ran with it. The drawing is based on Kanye West song "Monster" that also features Jay-Z, Rick Ross and Nicki Minaj. Here they are all little monsters, except Rick ROss, well because he aint little.

Keep it Classy

Keep it Classy, Illustrator, 2011
I kept bouncing between a classy type of villain and a cartoony one, so I think this is a decent compromise. I would definitely like to polish this idea up and make it nice.

Savage Villians

My good scanner is buster, or rather my computer, so I had to scan this in with my scanner printer and put it together. This is my submission for this weeks theme. Its another piece I have been wanting to do for some time. I plan on coloring it and will post that when I can.
Its based on an Alex Ross piece but with Savage Dragon characters. A gold star to whoever can name them all! Please comment, Id love to know what you guys think

The Mikku

They are the things you hear at night. The loud meowing in the distance. The hissing and the scratching outside. They're not cats they are Mikku. Also the plural for multiple Mikku is Mikku.

Demon Cop

This was a really quick job. I have been wanting to draw this character for a while, it started as a joke untill I started developing the story and now I like him. This isn't his final look, actually its the first time ive drawn him. There is definetly some Savage Dragon and Hellboy influence in there. Thats what I got

Little Monsters

Bloop, Blurp and Cassandra. You can get these adorable anamorphous triplettes and more down at Igor's Monster Emporium, The one stop shop for all your Monster and Monster needs.

Little Monsters

Sketch for Little Monster, Ink, 2011
A small boy stands in the corner with his head hung low, a broken lamp on the floor casts his shadow across the wall. It takes the form of what everyone must think of him. "What a little monster," they say under their breath.

My entry for this theme is just a small, very rough sketch for an idea that may make it into my series-in-progress Tongue in Cheek. I imagine the shadow to be sketchy, like a kid's crayon drawing, and intricate with lines weaving in and out. The monster needs a lot more design work, but for now it's a start.

The Beauty of Science

During school I made a package design for ICMAD. It was a box for a moisturizer (see below). For the theme, I decided to redesign my made-up brand "elemental" and included some ideas for the actual containers and the labels and packaging for a body lotion, body wash, and bar of soap. (See below below.)
Elemental, original design
Elemental is about natural products with clean feels and clean aesthetics - "back to basics". The containers for the body wash and lotion are made from recycled aluminum and plastic, and the wrapping for the bar is recycled paper.

These designs have a ways to go, but this is Draw Bit, so the idea has a good start to it.

"Hi my name is Pluto! Pllllllllllllllbrt!"

This is Pluto, he's an Ice Elemental! He makes the cold, the snow, and the ice. He hangs out with other elementals and has fun because they are all a playful bunch. He's weak against fire types but his best friend is Apollo the fire elemental. Together they just run around the world causing all sorts of crazy problems like climate change. You can't be mad at them though because those whipper snappers are adorable.

Stay cold,

Monday, June 6, 2011

Alright kids, the next theme is "Elemental". This one is quite a bit more open. Does it make it easier? Or more difficult? (insert dramatic music). Once again, this can be anything you want that has to do with the theme in any medium. Check The Rules for the guidelines and good luck! See you next Sunday!

Marbotic is Here and it will melt your FACES OFF!

So here is my band people, Marbotic. A classy chiptune band that blends the soundstyles of Chiptunes and Rock. Something to get your body moving to the sound of our Gameboys, NES's, and Electric Guitars. Make you move, make you rock, that is Marbotic's goal. And here's the logo that will begin every night we play our show. The face on our drumhead, I call him Muncher.

Nellz: Band logo

Band Logo: We R Nation

by Jesse 'Nellz' Nelson

My band is We R Nation; we're a rap/rock band with socially conscious lyrics, but with a bit of a party side. Kinda like P.O.D mixed with Linkin Park mixed with Killswitch Engage type aggression.

Make Yourself a Band Logo

First theme for us, and sort of an example of the kind of work to submit I suppose. It's a bit simple me up! The theme is to make yourself (plus someone else is just fine) into a band logo or poster. No other rules really. We'll adjust as this goes. Post your pieces to the blog (centered and large-sized please) and give a little description, list your mediums, whatever you'd like. Deadline is next Sunday, the 5th.

Marcelo & Jodi, the most awesome indie rock band with a bit of punk and sometimes, folk. Completed with Illustrator. (btw that is my haircut for those who haven't seen me in a while :D).

The Rules

Draw Bit is about smaller works. They may be a bit sketchy, line drawings, some washes, but still feel...finished. This is a blog with a weekly deadline and theme to exercise our brains, create more regularly, challenge ourselves, and open up discussions.

So, here are some guidelines:

Deadlines and themes will be posted on Facebook
Take a few hours or a day to complete it, we're not going for complete works of art here
Keep these to one color as much as possible (the limited palette helps keep these short and sweet)
Use any medium you want: pen, pencil, watercolor washes, ink, Illustrator, Photoshop...
Create in whatever style you want: still life, portrait, illustration, character design, comic panel, typography, package design...
Keep it open, get some conversation going, critique, discuss, and have fun with it
